The History of the Avain Race

This will be where I post the Avain background and information regarding their race.

I wish to thank catty_gothloli_21 for helping me to develop this page and the character Zeth.

I also wish to thank kind_tsukasa78 for helping me to develop Roxanne as a character. - They are also the owner of the character Kals Salim.

Avain Crystals

Avain crystals are a natural part of their bodies. They are each born with a crystal varying in size embedded in their chests right above their hearts. These crystals house and protect their very souls. They are also what grants them their powers and abilities. The crystal itself is very hard, comparable to a human diamond.

When an Avain is damaged to the point that their body would normally die their crystal kicks in and reverts them back to an egg. They will stay this way for upwards of a week as their bodies are rebuilt. Literally from what is understood the egg takes their genetic code and rebuilds a genetically perfect copy of it. So all scars, blemishes, etc. are done away with. Avains as a rule will try to avoid this state though as it is very painful for them and leaves them very vulnerable to attacks. Likewise if they lose a limb they will have to learn to live without that limb if it did not damage them enough to where their bodies would revert to the egg state.

Colors are a natural part of the crystals as well. Each Avain is slightly different but the colors will represent moods that they are in. It seems to depend on what the color means to the Avain for what colors are used for which emotions.

There has only been one in the history of the Avains that had to have a power augmentation device placed on them. That was Prince Zeth's younger sister Princess Cynthia. She was born with so much power within her that it was unleashed when she was six years old. This power almost destroyed the entire castle as she hovered in the air for six days straight radiating the sheer power from her small body. She is also the only Avain to have ever been born with six wings. On the seventh day she collapsed from the exhaustion of releasing so much energy. It was at this time that they placed a power augmenter around her crystal. It had seals built in that she would have to say an incantation to release each seal so she could use the different levels of power she possessed. They also placed ancient magical amulets inside this augmentation device. While in ancient times they were power amplifiers they were meant as a medium for Princess Cynthia. For when they did the operation to implant this augmentation device they found runes etched into her very crystal.

Avain Anatomy

Avain anatomy is very similar to a human's anatomy except for two key differences. The previously discussed crystals in their chests along with their wings.

From what we understand all Avains are hatched or born with these wings and unlike a birds wings they are all double jointed. It was an evolutionary requirement to hold up their weight.

Some Avains have gained the ability to withdraw their wings into their backs, but not all are able to do this. This ability did not present itself until after their race was blended with a race of demons, the Clan of Salim. Their wings are very sensitive to touch so generally as a rule they do not let others touch them. From what we can understand it can cause great pain or great arousal. To present their outstretched wings to another is a very submissive pose, similar to when a dog roles over on it's back and presents it's stomach.

Avains tend to age at a slower rate than humans do. They have extremely long life spans. So because of this their population is generally kept in check by one or two offspring per pairing. The only exception to this is if the pair is extremely powerful. Than they are allowed up to four offspring.

Avain Mating

The mating ceremony for Avains is something that is very strange, yet deathly important to them. Avains themselves will remain pure of body until they decide to take a mate. It is very important to them that they be able to share a pure body with the one who will be the other half of their very soul.

In the past it was custom for the King and Queen to choose a mate for every individual in their kingdom when they came of age. Eventually these two would bond and become one. This was done as a way of selecting and breeding the most powerful beings they could for their kingdom. However, when the Late Queen Roxanne Aerovane came to power she abolished this law saying it was interfering with their own freedom and right to choose to love whomever they wished. She herself had been betrothed to another before her banishment. Even while banished the Royals tried to enforce this pairing, but Queen Roxanne was able to kill the man before he was able to force himself on her.

When an Avain chooses a mate a small amount of blood is exchanged and they will consummate the marriage. It is explained that an exchange of powers occurs, as was seen when Queen Roxanne mated with Kals Salim. He gained a crystal of his own just like that of an Avain and even gained access to Queen Roxanne's powers and the benefits of an Avain crystal. Queen Roxanne gained access to King Kals powers and they shared a mind link. When one of the two dies the other will die as well, their crystal cracking in their chest. They quite literally it seems become two halves of the same whole.

Since Roxanne's bonding with King Kals it was noted that so much power had been accumulated through the mating that it forced her to ascend. Ascending is a higher state of power. The skin will be covered in blue-green runes that glow with an inner light. So far only those of the Royal family have attained this state after mating.

Avain Technology

Avains do not have a need for technology like humans do. So it has developed in a different style. Since they have a wide range of gifts among their people, many things that humans rely on technology for, the Avains have people who will do those. Portraits for example are done by those who have control over colors and lights. They can take a canvas and create something just as good as a photographer if not better. These people are in high demand throughout the kingdom. Other things such as cars or means of travel are rare but still used. If they are used they are generally for the very young or very old who do not have the stamina to fly for long distances. They would be like carriages but magically powered by an Avain near by that was either flying or riding on the vehicle. Many things that you could find in a human home are similar to that of an Avain home, except for perhaps a TV or Computer. Television is not something Avains have. They pride themselves more on learning from books, training, or improving themselves, than watching Television. Computers are unnecessary in their culture. Because of the mind sharing they have when they mate they will gain the skills of the one they mate with. So usually an Avain will specialize in one thing or another and learn a different area from their mate. The parents are also very involved in their children's lives as well, imparting much of their knowledge to their offspring.

Avain Culture and Traditions

Avains from a young age are tested to see what their abilities are and where they will be best suited to help the Kingdom as a whole grow and evolve. Once their path has been set it can be changed but it is very difficult to do so. In the days before Queen Roxanne took over once one came of age a betrothed was chosen for you by the ruling King and Queen. This was done to ensure the growth of the powerful. By mixing the powers that complimented each other they would ensure that any offspring that would be had would be more powerful than the previous generation. Once Queen Roxanne came to power this law was done away with.

Avains are generally a race that does not show affection by touch or any kind of contact. Now within families this is slightly different. Parents will reinforce good behavior through small touches with small children but as children grow these touches become less frequent to eventually stopping all together. It is very uncommon to see an adult Avain touching another unless it is a brief touch or something that is required. As they grow it is drilled into them to have honor in what they do and to bring praise to their families by becoming the best they can be.

Knowledge and power are held in very high regard in Avain culture. Schooling is generally handled by the parents and those who are masters of a trade. Avains will spend very long hours studying a trade or skill until they master it.

When an Avain finds someone whom they wish to mate with they generally will come straight out with their intentions, unless they can tell that the feelings are not returned, which is uncommon. If an Avain becomes attached to another it's because that individual has demonstrated qualities or traits that the Avain finds beneficial or attractive. To an Avain the human concept of "Love" is laughable. Most in this culture will not call it love, they view it as a blending. They are sharing their soul with another living being. So their feelings tend to run much deeper than a humans ever would. If they were to ever utter the words, "I love you." to another, they are telling that person that they are willing to share their soul with them. In a pairing of Avains there is no secret between the mated. They take this very seriously and will go for hundreds of years now before ever settling or choosing a mate.

Avain History

We will start about Five hundred years ago. King Zeth Vale and Queen Lamia Vale ruled the Avain Kingdom. They had their son Sage Vale. Maion Aerovane was the personal advisor to the King and Queen his mate Sariel Aerovane was also one of the overseers for Entertainment and Safety. Roxanne Aerovane was their daughter. Because of the Aerovane's status Roxanne was privy to things that a normal Avain would not have had access to. However, she had to prove herself along the way. Her Father Maion pushed her very hard to ensure that she was at the top of her class and excelled in all that she did. Roxanne Aerovane came into one of the most coveted positions for power. She was the Royal guard for Sage Vale. His personal guard as well as his care taker. In other cultures this was viewed as a degrading position. However, to an Avain what higher purpose could their be than to be entrusted with the offspring of your rulers? It was a show of great trust, and acknowledgement of power. This also meant that when Roxanne finally mated and bore offspring that they more than likely would be chosen to mate with the young prince, blending the two families together.

As time passed Roxanne indeed became like a Mother to young Sage and traveled with him everywhere. It was her duty and privileged to give her life for her young prince if required, so long as he lived. Then the time came where the Royal family decided to send Sage on his first ambassador mission. He was to travel to a neighboring Kingdom and establish relations with them. Sage, still being so young rode in a carriage as he was unable to fly for long distances. On their way to this other Kingdom a group of rebels who did not want Avain interference ambushed the young Prince's group. The battle was very bloody but the rebels had an advantage that the Avains didn't know about. They carried a human made baton weapon covered in a poison that would incapacitate them for a short while, but long enough that the rebels had time to shatter their crystals with magic or sheer brute force. The closest of the personal guard were commanded by Roxanne and were the last to fall. The rebels recognized who she was and decided to send a message to the Avain Royalty. They forced Roxanne to watch all of the men who had trusted her with their lives,be poisoned and then have their crystals crushed in front of her. Many of whom were mated to others back in the kingdom. She knew that with their lives gone more were dying back home.

Lastly the Rebels brought out her beloved prince. Who even though he was terrified was trying to be brave. It wasn't until they presented him in front of Roxanne and proceeded to break her wings in front of him that the boy began to cry and beg for them to stop. Finding humor in what they were doing they forced Roxanne to watch as they teased the boy and poisoned him before slowly crushing his crystal. It wasn't until that final moment when she saw Sage's life force leave him that her spirit broke. These men had killed her beloved prince.

The rebels knew that if they let her Roxanne would slaughter them all. So they poisoned her and made sure that her wings were thoroughly broken before giving her the broken body of her prince. The forced her to carry his lifeless body back to his parents dragging her wings behind her.

When she arrived back at the palace both the King and the Queen came rushing out along with Roxanne's own parents. Guards took Prince Sage's lifeless body from her arms as the wails of the King and Queen could be heard throughout the Kingdom. Falling to her knees in front of them Roxanne wept and tried her best to present her wings to those she served but the bones were too badly broken for them to even move. Outraged at her failure to keep their son alive, Roxanne was forced to pay the ultimate price, or so they thought, for an Avain. The King and Queen had her wings cut off and she was sold into slavery in a far away Kingdom, banished from her home for the rest of her life. They thought it was better to let her live with her guilt than to outright kill her for her failure.

For a time Roxanne was shifted from Slave shop to slave shop. None really wanted her because of her nature and awkward being. She didn't understand humans and refused to serve those who wanted her for the simple purpose of entertainment. It was here that Kals Salim found her. A powerful magic user Kals was looking for someone to serve as a guard for him as he worked his assignments from a human faction the dealt with magical creatures who were trying to harm humans. He was also shunned by his clan for being only a half demon so he understood Roxanne's pain in being exiled from her home. For a long time she served him as his guard and eventually as his friend. Kals himself had many personal demons that thanks to Roxanne's magical abilities she was able to help him deal with. All the while slowly he helped her heal the pain in her soul from losing her beloved prince. During her stay with Kals the Avains sent Roxanne's original betrothed to force her to blend with him and bare him a child. With the combined effort of Kals magic and Roxanne's fighting abilities they were able to defeat this man. They sent the broken body back to the Avains as a clear message that Roxanne was free of them and would no longer submit to their law.

Not long after the humans Kals had worked for betrayed them and kidnapped both of them. They submitted Roxanne to various tortures and took blood from both of them. They studied her crystal trying hard to duplicate the power held within. However, they underestimated the power of Avain resolve. When Roxanne heard them conducting experiments on Kals and harming him she had flash backs of her Prince. This drove her into a rage and caused her to unleash a power she hadn't realized she had before. Roxanne's primary magical abilities were shadow manipulation as well as illusions she would cause with her voice. She used these abilities to slaughter all of the doctors who were harming her as well as Kals. In the process however she was mortally wounded. As she was about to revert back into an egg Kals channeled some of his power into her and caused the egg process to speed up. Within an hour she was 'reborn' genetically perfect. Her wings were restored to her and she wept with joy vowing to never leave Kals and to protect him with her very life.

Kals and Roxanne were bonded not long after this, their life forces blended together. Yet Kals hadn't fully recovered from the torture he had endured. So after the blending his body died and he himself reverted to an egg. Roxanne watched over him day and night to ensure his safety, all the while maintaining a mental link with him to help him through the process. It was while he was an egg that a member of Kals Clan came to call upon him. They were surprised to find that he had blended with another creature besides a demon and gained so much power from it. Once Kals was restored to his own genetically perfect form they made the trip to see his family. As a test his Uncle, the head of the clan tested both of them. Kals was tested magically and thanks to his link with Roxanne and training with her passed with flying colors. When it came time to test Roxanne they made only one requirement. She could not use any of her magical abilities. Their understanding of her kind was that this would put her at a disadvantage. They were sorely mistaken. Roxanne was pitted against one of their strongest fighters. While they had brute strength on her she had speed and agility. Their fight was long and bloody but both parties made a mistake. Roxanne got in too close and her opponent was able to get her into a bear hug. As a last resort she took a deep breath and let out a note that shattered glass up to 20ft around her. Effectively splitting her opponents ear drums and incapacitating him.

Because both Roxanne and Kals passed their tests Kals was welcomed back into their Clan and given full protection of his Clan. As Roxanne and Kals returned home both of them felt an unease in their crystals that seemed out of place. Kals teleported them to where the unease was coming from and they found themselves near one of the human's bases. Kals explained that it was here that they would sometimes take the demons he would take care of for them to figure out what they were or how they came to this place. Confused both of them followed the pull at their crystals and found a building that looked like all of the others but reeked of blood and decay. Searching with her shadows Roxanne found to her horror several infantile bodies inside. Storming the building Kals and Roxanne killed everyone inside. What they found inside was a perverted horror that they just couldn't fathom. The humans had used the genetic samples from both Kals and Roxanne and tried to splice them together to create a clone. However, not really understanding the physiology of an Avain they had failed greatly. Avains are not born they are hatched.

All around them lay the deformed bodies of babies of various ages all dead. Kals found a notebook and was able to determine what the humans were doing. Roxanne just stood in the middle of all of the bodies and wept for their poor little lives. Walking aimlessly she found herself in front of an incubator staring at a tiny new born babe with wings black as night and a fully formed crystal in his chest. This one child gurgled at her and waived his little hand unafraid. Roxanne gently picked him up and searched him with her power. Turning to Kals she presented their son to him. As they left the compound Kals used his magic to incinerate everything inside before completely demolishing the building so that nothing could be recovered.

When they finally reached their home Roxanne gave the babe to Kals and created a monument to the other children who had paid for the science of humans with their lives. Taping into Kals’ power she was able to manipulate the earth into a dome that any child would love to play on. They decided to name their son Uriel Aerovane – Salim. While they were mourning the dead children and settling in with little Uriel the humans attacked again in anger. Taking their son to Kals family Roxanne and Kals thought they would be safe from the humans who wanted to kill them so badly.

However, they were wrong. As they readied to attack the humans they found that the humans were the ones who had supplied the weapons to the rebels that had killed so many of her friends, and her beloved prince. They weren’t even given enough time to recover from the shock of this news when a portal opened up. Avains come through alongside humans demanding Roxanne and Kals be brought before them. Below we have a recount of that eventful day.

Roxanne Aerovane-Salim

Roxanne followed the men out of the war room listening to the sounds from outside. She emerged just in time to see a spear fly through Oriel’s chest. Blinking rapidly she watched as Kals held the man tenderly and let him pass. It enraged her. This senseless death. This needless bloodshed. Oriel had been the one family member of Kals left, that had even been willing to give him another chance. She had enough. As Kals held out his hand to her and told her they would end this she looked to him and nodded. Taking his hand she walked up to him and wrapped an arm around him. ”I need you to take Uriel to a safe place Kals. I’m going to stop the Avians.” Handing Kals their son she looked him in the eyes and smiled before leaning up and kissing him lovingly. This man was her world and she would do anything to bring him happiness.

Stepping back she turned to the window they had been looking out. Already her skin had begun to change, the blue green lines that had faded from before rose to the surface and pulsed with an inner light. Opening her mind to her parents she let them know exactly where she was and just how determined she was. With a running start she leapt through the window and free fell for just a moment before snapping open her wings and soaring high above the battle field. The Avians had yet to come through the gate to join the humans, meaning they were using them as pawns. Her anger growing as she watched people fall below her she summoned the shadows from the ground. Every last one of them came to life and grabbed the nearest being with a shadow. Kals family were spared but none of the humans were. All the humans were pulled into the ground and moved to a spot off to the side of the portal. A large shadow rift opened in front of the gateway the Avians had opened. Landing in front of it Roxanne stood between her people’s army and Kals’ family. Steeling her gaze she stepped through the rift and donned her armor. She had sunk it into the shadow realm where she might need it. As it closed behind her two figures walked through the gateway. Ignoring the human’s screaming in outrage they walked closer to Roxanne.

”Mother, Father. I challenge the King and Queen. I challenge them for the right to rule. It is our families honor and duty to challenge when the current King and Queen become unfit. Summon them here so that I may claim my right.”

”My beautiful daughter. I hear and honor your right. Who will be the one to stand and fight beside you?” Her Mother asked a brief look of concern flitting across her face.

”I will fight them myself. My other half is protecting the thing that means just as much to me as he does. My son. Your grandson. I will not let them take him and manipulate him. I will not let them smear my name or love for him.”

”Acknowledged and understood. We will not let anyone interfere.” Her father smiled at her briefly as he spoke and she could hear his soft spoken words in her mind. I’m proud of you.

In the back of her mind and heart she could feel Kals racing to get their child to safety to help her. She sent him a wave of reassurance My Love. I know you want to know what I plan to do but I need you there with Uriel. I need to do this for us. Please understand. She shut him out. She knew it would worry him but it would harm him more if he knew what she was about to do.

Kals heard Roxanne’s plea in his mind before she shut him out. It wasn’t fair that she would do such a thing to him. He knew that if he had done that to her she would have thrown a fit. He would have to have a chat with his lovely wife when all of this was over. Going to one of the hidden rooms of his families castle he found the mother of one of the little children Roxanne had helped. Knowing the woman would help him he asked her to watch over his son and he would seal them into the room until everything was ok again. Once she agreed he handed over his son and walked back out of the room. Turning he drew on the power inside him and cast a protection spell over the room hiding it from everyone but Roxanne and himself. Shifting he ran back towards where the portal had appeared.

Looking ahead as her parents stepped to form a large circle around her two more forms marched in followed by the Avian army. She could feel the shifting of unease behind her from Kals family but they were looking to her to see what she did. They were all a little baffled by the sheer power she had used to trap all the humans. The two forms stopped in front of her and sneered at her.

”Now you think to further disgrace us by challenging us? You honestly think you can defeat us?” They said as one. True, it would be hard for her but they still thought she was powerless against them. That she still cared. Once they got a good look at her though the surprise was evident on their faces. ”Your wings! How is it possible you have your wings back?! The queen screamed in outrage. Her face turning a deep red with anger. ”You were to never know the pleasure of flight again. I watched as they sliced those foul appendages from your back. Those wings that were sworn to protect my late son. How dare you don them in front of us. Cut them off. I demand it.” The queen summoned her sword and pointed it at Roxanne rage coming off of her in waves.

Roxanne simply smiled at the woman as she ranted. ”I have found love Highness, from the very one you meant to torture me. I was bought from that slave shop. I was shown kindness and love. This man has returned to me, what you took. He has given me back my wings, given me a son, and given me back my life. I refuse to let your self-righteous, pompous, over glorified ego, take it from me again. I served you and your husband for my entire life. I would have gladly traded my life for young master’s. I was denied that though. Instead I was given a gift in the form of punishment. My master is now my bond mate. May we both send you to hell.” With an evil glint to her eyes she spit on the ground in front of them before drawing her swords and spreading her wings. A wall of energy went up around them. One that would block others from entering but only allow one soul to exit. The King and Queen’s soul, or Roxanne’s. It would allow others to see inside though.

Seeing her challenge and infuriated that it was being honored both the King and Queen drew their swords and came at Roxanne. The Queen lashing out with fire, the King using his acid to spray at her. With a grin Roxanne silently thanked Kals because it was solely his role in her life up to that moment, that she was going to make it through the battle with them. He was her reason and her gift. Throwing up a barrier shield to ward off the acid she pulled the water from the ground and drew it around herself to quench the fires. Shadow stepping she came up behind them. Both swirled in her direction clearly surprised. ”What I didn’t tell you? I have all the knowledge my bond mate does. He has lived for even longer than you. I have his knowledge and my own power.” They should have known that she would gain her mates powers but they had probably assumed that she had bonded with an inferior human, not a half demon.

The battle waged on blood flying, metal clashing, curses being spat, and all the while both sides watched in awe as these three great beings fought. It was one that would be remembered and retold for generations to come.

In the back of Roxanne’s mind she knew she would either have to kill the King and Queen or be killed herself. However it just didn’t seem right. She couldn’t kill the very people she had served and protected for so long. Even after what they had done to her. Kals would understand but it would unsettle him. He would never be able to feel alright with it. She knew he would blame himself for his part in teaching her what she knew. As she felt the King’s blade slice through her upper arm she had a vision. Something from her son. He was playing with a crystal that no longer held Avian power. There were runes etched on it. It was one of the old magical amulets they had used in battle a very long time ago. A magic amplifier. Reaching up she touched the crystal around her neck that she wore. The one Kals had given her. That was it!

As the couple launched their next attack on Roxanne she smiled wearily pulling her own wings back into place as tattoos on her back.. A skill she had learned from Kals. This would be the last attack she could make. If it didn’t work then she would die and everyone here would be slaughtered. Muttering the incantation from Kals memory; she pulled up part of the binding spell that had held down his memories of necromancy as well as of binding in general. Magic binding. Holding her swords at ready she fluidly parried the attack they made rising just behind them. In one fluid motion she sliced off both of their wings at the same time. Stumbling forward the both fell to their knees crying out in pain. Dropping her swords Roxanne turned and placed her palms over their backs and spoke the last of the spell. A blinding light lit up the area all around them along with a very loud explosion of power.

Once the dust cleared three bodies could be seen laying on the ground. The barrier was brought down. Roxanne lay looking up at the sky breathing shallow breaths. She could feel Kals running towards her. Her Mother and Father ran to the King and Queen surprised by what they found. As Kals finally pushed his way through the crowd to her Roxanne smiled up at him as he picked her up and held her. ”They are banished. I never want to see them again. Send them to the human realm. Strip the humans of their weapons and leave them to Kals family.” She said to her Parents before leaning against Kals, cut, dirty, bruised, battered, and bloody, but alive.

Her Father sat back on his heels and looked at her bewildered. ”I don’t know where you learned such a thing, but it will be done. Standing her turned to the Avain army and spoke in a deep booming voice. The new Queen has spoken. Her orders will be carried out immediately. Gather the princess to send with them.”

Looking up sharply Roxanne spoke coldly. ”No, the princess will be adopted by Kals and myself. I will not let these cretins spoil her young mind.” Looking up at Kals she smiled and touched his face. ”You don’t mind gaining a little girl do you?” She chuckled and dropped her hand.

Her Father nodded and turned barking orders. It had been done. She had assumed the throne and they had their life.

~Epilogue~

Roxanne smiled as she stood with Kals just outside the archway watching their children play in the garden. Young Uriel was growing up to be quite the handful. While their little Princess Iriana was trying hard to follow her big brother in all of his adventures. Leaning against her husband Roxanne was pleased with how their life had turned out. Kals had finally gotten his wish of seeing her homeland. With a giggle she looked up at his handsome face and marveled at her life. They now ruled her country as well as his family clan. Both had been made stronger for it. They had annihilated the organization that had threatened their family together. Kept their little ones safe and to this day she was thankful for her husband’s curious nature. Because it was his curiosity that had brought them together.

Avain History Continued

Life was not always easy for Uriel as he grew up. Sure his parents Roxanne and Kals loved him and doted on him as well as Iriana. Yet there was always something reserved in the way that he was treated by others. He knew that he hadn't been born as a true Avain or Demon but Kals and Roxanne both had always told him that they way you were born didn't matter. It was how you used your life. So he did his best to become the best he could. His powers seemed to be limited because of his demonic blood and just like his Father he struggled with stamina when it came to magics. While Iriana excelled at everything she did. When eventually it came time for him to consider a mate he naturally looked to the one who had been beside him his whole life. Iriana was strong and beautiful. Sure she had her moments where it seemed like she was plotting but nothing had ever come from it. They mated and made their parents proud by using their joined power to ensure the survival of all of their people. Uriel could feel something lurking in his mates mind though. Something she hid from him and became defensive about when he would push it. Not wanting to hurt his beloved though he always relented and did his best to make her happy.

Iriana knew from a young age that Roxanne was an oppressor that needed to be overthrown. She had just gained so much power that she was able to throw an illusion over all of their people and corrupt them all. It was only due to her parents upbringing that she had been able to withstand the traitors power. That wretched woman had been the one to let her precious elder brother die and not show any remorse for it at all. Then she had the gall to challenge Iriana's parents and ban them?! Vengeance would be hers. She did as her Mother taught her. She bid her time and acted as the perfect adopted daughter to them and won their son's heart. She took all the training they would give her and built her mental strength. She knew that one day she would be his mate and would need to hide her real plan from him. When the day came that they finally mated she set her plans into motion. She bore him a son, but he was not the one she needed. He was too much like his Grandparents and so very weak. Despising Zeth Iriana just pretended to raise him but more or less let Uriel and his parents do what they wanted. It wasn't until her precious Cynthia was born that Iriana knew she could begin. She started to travel under the pretense of learning more about cultures and humans. It was really her way of tracking down her parents and the humans who had once almost killed Roxanne and Kals. Eventually she found them and worked out with them that they would act as a new country looking for a trade relationship with the Avains. The humans were very eager to gain access to the Avain kingdom. Yet unbeknownst to Iriana they had their own plan. They would take down as many of the Avains and demons that they could as the abominations that they were.

Zeth grew up knowing there was something off about the way that his mother treated him. However, he was very close to his Grandparents who were the rulers at the time. His Grandmother and Grandfather taught him all he knows about combat and control. His Grandmother was more of a Mother to him than his own. His own Mother made it a point to ignore him and give his Father her undivided attention. He saw what it did to his Father. It made him putty in his Mother's hands and he did whatever she said. Even after his younger sister was born this did not change.

Per his Grandmother's instruction he excelled at the top of his class and even rose in the military ranks of their nation. His life was dreadfully dull, but it was still pleasant. Finally he came of age to start courting damsels of other nations and was able to sit in on meeting that dealt with those nations. While he would have preferred being out doing some form of military exercise his Mother saw an opportunity. A way for her to get more. A way to get rid of his grandparents so she could rule.

Cynthia is the second child to Iriana and Uriel Aerovane-Salim. She grew up in a very loving home with her Grandparents and older brother Zeth Aerovane-Salim. She was trained as a princess should be. Which was greatly enforced when she turned six years old. At the age of six her crystal started to glow as she slept and she began to sleep walk. Ending up in the main foyer of the castle she began to levitate with her six wings outstretched. Her crystal began to glow even brighter and power surged around her. She stayed like this for six days total. Her family tried everything they could to stop the power but the surges were so strong they almost destroyed the whole castle around her. On the seventh day Cynthia collapsed from exhaustion. It was decided then that they would need to place a power augmentation device on her. The hope was that eventually they would be able to remove it as she grew older and learned more control, but as the years passed, her power only grew stronger. So they eventually accepted that the device would always be a part of her.

Cynthia loved her elder brother very much and idolized him. She knew that in terms of power she was the stronger of the two but to her, he was still the hero. So whatever goal he set for himself she felt the need to follow in his footsteps. She rose through their military and magical ranks quickly and easily. She knew that this annoyed Zeth but she just wanted to be as good as him. Plus this made her parents very proud of her. She would glow when her Mother would praise her for her accomplishments. To further her instruction on the runic magics they decided to send her away to Kals Demonic family. She excelled at this as well and was able to return early from her trip while a foreign ambassador was at their home via an invite from her Mother. Her Mother seemed worried that she had returned home early but she dismissed the idea happy to see her family again.

A magic using human was sent to play the part of the Ambassador. He played his part well and in the dead of night while staying inside the castle of the Avains he opened a portal. Through this portal came an army of humans all armed with batons that were coated in a poison that would paralyze the Avains and give the magic users enough time to cast spells to crush the crystals in their chests. The Ambassador made straight for Iriana and Uriel's room. He entered stealthily and stood over Uriel as they slept. Stabbing him with his baton he watched as they both came awake and laughed in glee as he cast the spell to crush Uriel's crystal. He knew exactly what it would do to Iriana. Taking a short blade he slit Uriel's throat just to watch his blood spill. Leaving he went down to the main hall and joined in the fight against the Royal Family.

One night as a foreign ambassador stayed within their walls; Zeth awoke to a loud alarm being sound along with a wail of despair from down the hall where his parents slept. While this night is mainly a blur to him he does remember rushing down the hall with his rapiers in hand and finding his Mother holding his Father's body as they both bled out in their own bed. He remembers finding his sister fighting alongside his Grandparents with which he joined. Then pain, lots of pain.

When he woke he realized he had reverted to an egg and rolled under some debris. After searching he found his Grandparents and younger sister. Their wings cut off and put up on display, and their crystals crushed in their chests. His kingdom had fallen and he was a nobody. Gathering what he could he began searching for those who had done this.

In the middle of the night the shadows woke Cynthia. Screeching at her of danger in her home. Rising from her bed she followed the direction her shadows took her. Through the halls she saw men. Humans who were armed with a strange baton. Every Avain they touched with these batons instantly dropped gasping in pain. Sensing danger Cynthia called her weapons to her through the shadows and faced off with the men. It didn't take long for her to reach her Grandparents Kals and Roxanne. As she fought by their side a moment passed where all three of them fell still paralyzed with shock. Cynthia's parents had just passed. The connection was severed through all of the Royal line. Rage and despair filled her. Recklessly she charged into battle and killed as many of these humans as she could. Eventually she noticed Zeth at her side but fear took her once more when she saw him fall, followed by the death of Kals and Roxanne. Blindly fighting she felt she no longer had a reason to survive. A net was cast over her and she was hit several times by the batons. Poison covered them that allowed the humans enough time to cast a spell that shattered the device around her crystal as well as crack her crystal.

Feeling her soul escaping she fell to the floor. She was still aware when they sliced off her wings and hung them up on display. Darkness took her and in her beloved shadows she found solace. Truly she thought she was dead but instead the demons in the shadows whispered to her and surrounded her. They are what kept her alive using their power and connection through her own demonic blood to heal her crystal. Fatally wounded though she reverted to an egg after Zeth had found her and their Grandparents and left.

It was the Clan of Salim that found her. Kals family had come to fetch her when she had not returned for her training. What they found angered and saddened them. They found her egg and understood what had happened. Bringing her back to their home they prepared a new power augmentation device for her and installed it once she hatched.

When she awoke the pain of what had happened paralyzed her. It took her several months to learn to even function again. It was only the hope that one day she would see her brother again that got her moving. Finishing her training with her family she kept tabs on Zeth.

Four years passed until she finally saw her brother again.
